Know Your Powder Style

Are you a surf slasher who loves to carve and never misses a powder day? Check out the Tree Surfer and the Makrill. Both models are playful and powerful swallowtails designed to turn effortlessly in deep powder or mixed conditions. Soul shredders who mix it up between high-speed powder runs and cruisey carving should explore the SuperGlider, a radical longboard in a league of its own.

Choose Your Powder Board

Four directional powder snowboards made for finding fresh tracks and carving around the mountain.

TREE SURFER

Designed for deep snow slashing and all-mountain cruising
The Tree Surfer is a unique directional freeride board that cranks the volume on powder performance without distorting control on hardpack. The hammerhead nose floats like a boat and cuts through crust like a tank, while the mid-stiff fish tail lets you dip and dive through soft snow or lay down deep carves on firm snow. It has an all-mountain / freeride board feel, making it the perfect board to pack for a pow-hunting trip. Hopefully you score fresh, but if not, no need to stress about board choice. The Tree Surfer is damp, stable, and fun to shred in any snow condition. For best all-terrain performance, ride the Tree Surfer in your traditional freeride board size.

MAKRILL

Designed for pure powder and piste performance
The Makrill is a nimble rocketship that excels in deep snow. It’s the most powder-specific shape in the Stranda collection, but like all Stranda boards, it still rails on groomed runs. The Makrill’s volume-shifted fish shape pairs a long, rockered nose and a short swallowtail with a tight progressive sidecut. The combo delivers race car-like handling in tight terrain. It’s super fast and quick to corner. Camber underfoot and Power Bumps at the inserts add edge grip on firm snow, and the wide waist width eliminates boot out on deep carves. Keep the Makrill waxed and ready for deep days, or carve it up during high-pressure. It’s a proper sports car, fast, sexy and compact. Ride the Makrill 6-10 cm shorter than your traditional freeride board.

SUPERGLIDER

Designed for waist deep powder and creative carving
The SuperGlider is a one-of-a-kind directional snowboard that pairs a stunning surf shape with an unconventional sidecut and camber profile to unlock epic performance. The SuperGlider’s broad rockered nose has a long sidecut and flat profile that provide exceptional glide, float, and stability when riding in big terrain or deep snow. But the tail is the secret weapon because it has a camber pocket and a much tighter sidecut. Lean forward, driving your weight into the fall line, and you’ll feel the stable confidence of a freeride board. Or lean back, weight the tail, and prepare to snap cutbacks and slingshot out of turns like a playful longboard. It’s a best-of-both-worlds board feel that’s unlike anything else on the market. The SuperGlider comes in one size, 181 cm, and rides shorter than it sounds. It’s quick and maneuverable for its size.

SHORTY

Designed for high-speed powder lines and tree runs
The Shorty is a surf-inspired powder gun for riders who like their deep days fast. A long, rockered nose and a compact diamond tail sink the tail and lift the nose without leaning back, delivering heroic float in waist-deep snow. Unlike the swallowtails, the Shorty pairs its surf shape with a longer multi-radial sidecut, aluminum stringers, and carbon torsion rods, so it stays damp and composed when you open it up on big alpine faces or wind-buffed chop. Between storms, it rails groomers with confidence. Size up 3-8 cm from your traditional freeride board size for best powder performance.

A powder surf board is a unique directional freeride board that’s designed to deliver incredible float and nimble, surf-style maneuverability in fresh snow. These models have directional shapes and hybrid camber profiles that enhance glide in pow while providing exceptional edge hold and carving power on groomed snow. They are outstanding dedicated pow boards or fun everyday boards if you like to slash around the mountain and rip tight carves between storms.

A good powder surf board offers phenomenal float in deep snow, and a fun-loving board feel that makes you want to slash every terrain feature in sight. These models are easy to ride in deep snow because they have long noses and compact tapered tails that naturally drop into the pow. When the tail drops, the nose pops up without having to lean back. For a playful, surf-style board feel, powder surf boards have medium to short sidecuts and hybrid camber profiles that make them quick to pivot and slash. Compared to a standard directional freeride board, a powder surf board offers better float and maneuverability at slower speeds, and slightly less high-speed stability and technical precision on steep terrain.

The best Stranda powder board depends on your riding style and intended use. If you want a playful board that’s easy to turn and virtually unsinkable in deep snow, check out the Makrill and Tree Surfer. These powder surf models are designed to offer amazing float and glide in low-angle terrain and at slower speeds. If you’re looking for a powder board that can stomp cliff drops and rip steep, technical terrain, go for a Descender or Descender Evolution in a longer size. And if high-speed pow turns on open terrain are your jam, strap into a Shorty or a SuperGlider. Both have super floaty shapes that are remarkably stable at speed.

Board volume (a board’s surface area) is crucially linked to float in powder. Wide snowboards offer more board volume at shorter lengths. Wide snowboards aren’t always better for powder, but a compact and wide, volume-shifted shape will be more maneuverable than a longer, narrower snowboard that floats equally well.
